Flood The News: Covering Climate Now
#CoveringClimateNow, a joint project of Columbia Journalism Review and The Nation, officially began September 16th, 2019. During that week, more than 220 publications from around the world flooded the news with climate crisis stories in a united effort to call the world to action, culminating on September 23 – the day of the Climate Action Summit.
My team’s contribution was the Flood the News Immersive Art Exhibit taking place in New York City and featuring 35+ global newspapers and a bespoke informational handout.
The Handout
As a part of the event and the initiative for #CoveringClimateNow, one of the biggest design pieces was the informational handout that discussed the history of underreporting climate change related news and how to stay updated on the crisis we have on our hands.
My role in the project was creating the typography in partnership with our animation and 3D rendering team to make bespoke typographic pieces to talk about the information in as elegant a way as possible.

Newspaper Exhibition
The exhibit features the front pages of 35+ global newspapers physically treated to reflect the effects of climate change, including rising sea levels, heat waves, pollution, and declining snowpack. The distressed newspapers reflect the specific effects of global warming that will occur in that newspaper’s region.
